Lake Eyre Microbiotics

Lake Eyre’s fragile ecology and the increasing impacts of climate change on the landscape. The landscape is renowned for its expansive qualities and colours which are extraordinary and unusual. Many of the colours are formed from salts in the water and the related microbiotic plant and fish species that make up the salt pans.  These paintings explore the relationship of microbes to the larger landscape through colour movement and form. The resulting imagery oscillates between abstraction and figuration. The works attempt to evoke emotional responses through the portrayal of expansive uninhabited space, harsh conditions; blinding light, silence, toxicity and life on the edge.

The paintings are all oil on board and approximately 1200x800
