Climate change creature

On a visit to Lake Eyre in 2014 Colin met Uncle Reg, a Diyari Elder, who told us that the local lizards snakes and insects of Lake Eyre could no longer support the subsistence lifestyle of the local Aboriginal mob. The temperatures in the lake area were often above 50C degrees for longer than a month a year. The lizards, birds, insect life and many of the plants had died in the heat, the water is saline. The indigenous creatures were heading for extinction. I acknowledge that this work was created on the traditional lands of the Cadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay my respect to Elders both past, present and future.

The climate change creature (CCC) is a mythical subterranean aggressor who seeks out politicians who are climate deniers. The worm like creature attacks ineffective environmental policy and the people who deny greenhouse gasses and fossil fuels are complicit in climate change. The CCC is normally docile, happy and stays well out of sight, but under current heated conditions has lost its cool. CCC lives in the sandy desert of Lake Eyre but has aggressively spread to Canberra and Regional Australia. Colin created the CCC sculptures, paintings and a post apoplectic scene for the last living creature left in the desert.
